I've had personal vendetta against Spotify for at least 10 months. I have tried and failed to create a robust and reliable alarm clock that simply plays Spotify when I wake up. It's been an interesting journey to say the least, and I'm shocked how complicated it becomes with Spotify not being extremely friendly to these types of projects, combined with Apple wanting to push their own music platform so they create unnecessary friction for Spotify on iOS.
Setup
All you need to do is open Spotify on a browser with a URL ending in "?go=1" which basically triggers Spotify to see the browser session as active. After that, you can send it to another speaker, play on device, change song - the choice is yours.
- Copy link of the playlist you want
- Add "?go=1" to the end of the link
- Open link in Chrome/Safari
- Set playback to whichever device you want The beauty of doing this within an iOS shortcut is that it can be connected to when your wakeup alarm goes off and has been much more reliable than needing to host it on some computer running 24/7 at home just so you can have a cron job run once a day and give it network access to your speaker on WiFi, etc.
